Lies - Understanding and Dealing with Them

Author: Jose G. Barr, Jr.

Today I had to deal with our son lying to us.  Just a few days ago he was talked to by his teacher about a comment he made about another classmate. He admitted to it and was given a "Time to Think" sheet to be brought home. He gave me the sheet and denied that he had done anything wrong, instead pointing the finger at some unknown student as having made the comment.

Why did he choose to lie about this when he had already told the truth? He was probably looking to spare our feelings on this. He knew that we would have been very disappointed about this situation and was more than likely trying to spare our feelings.  The good news here is that he acknowledged that he had done something wrong and told his teacher the truth.
