Cavalia Odysseo - An Amazing Journey

Cavalia Odysseo left me and my family speechless.  What an amazing spectacle! Over the last few years I noticed the billboards for the show and vowed to go see it some day. We did see it for the first time in Irvine, California and got the chance to see it again this past Saturday afternoon in Camarillo,California. 

As we drove to the area my son was the first to see the huge tents housing the performance, and this was still a few miles away.  What takes your breath away is how grand the whole affair feels.  The tents feel enormous , yet every seat in the big top has a great view of the show.  Our seats were about mid way up and in the middle and what a view we had. Each and every seat is comfortable, you do not feel as if you are packed in with the other guests.    The music is performed live each and every show, giving the performance even more impact.   

Carousel Performance

The stage itself is a work of wonder as the scenes shift from one mood to another.  The backdrop moves to give one a sense of ever expanding space or contracting space.  The use of forced perspective makes you feel as if the show is being performed on a huge open field.  When the performance requires a more intimate space, the backdrops move into place to reduce the size and scope of the stage to make a single performer the center of attention.

Each performance enhances the overall experience and provides one a hunger for more.  The horsemanship is amazing, the degree of comfort by the performers with these beautiful animals is very evident. Many of the stunts require this comfort because the riders is quite literally putting their lives in the hands or hooves of their partners. 

The special effects team for Cavalia Odysseo work their magic and provide the extra piece to make this a spectacle to behold. The finale left everyone in awe watching what appears on stage. I could not believe my eyes when I noticed it happening. I will leave it at that and let you my dear readers see it for yourselves.  This show is one that I wholeheartedly recommend as a fun family outing.  Go see it and enjoy the magic of these amazing performers, both human and equine.

Cavalia Odysseo

Cavalia #Odysseo is back in California for their final performances of 2017. Odysseo will be coming to Ventura County next week. Marvel Universe Live: Age of Heroes - Review

Last night I had the privileged of taking my wife and son to see the Inland Empire premier of Marvel Universe Live! Age of Heroes at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

The story revolves around Asgardian super villain Loki and his hired gun Nebula's attempt to steal the Wand of Watoomb from the space pirate Ravagers. The Guardians of the Galaxy search the galaxy in order to stop the Ravagers from using the wand and potentially destroying the universe. On Earth Spider-Man, Thor, Doctor Strange and the Avengers team up to stop Loki from acquiring the wand. For those of you who know about the Marvel Universe, be prepared to see some other super heroes appear to help in the fight to save the universe.

The story evolves over several scenes linked together by fantastic special effects, stunts, pyrotechnics and acrobatics.  My favorite was seeing Spider-Man riding a motorcycle for the first time...Hilarious. With a cast of over 25 characters there is plenty of action on and above the stage to keep the family entertained.  My son sat and watched the entire show, never missing a beat, occasionally explaining to me what was happening and why a villain was the way they were. All very serious stuff to him to be sure.

Marvel Universe Live! Age of Heroes has something for everyone, from acrobatics, superhero combat and the pyrotechnics its a thrillfest for the whole family! Marvel Universe Live! Daddy Weight Loss - The Low Carb Diet

Soon after Christmas I had a life changing revelation.I had to fly to Albuquerque on business and had to take 2 flights on regional jets. Now, for those of you that have not flown in one of these, they are the much smaller jets used to fly to smaller airports.  Boy was that an adventure. Because of my weight, sitting comfortably was difficult. I sat in my hotel room that night and contemplated my day and realized that if I kept going this way I would not live to see my son graduate from school, let alone sit comfortably in a seat designed for someone much smaller than me.

So, While I was in Albuquerque, New Mexico I changed a few things around. I started to eat healthy meals and limit the quantities. What made it easy to get started was the people I was working with. They were all motivated and working for the same goal as me, to lose some weight and get healthy.  I made some strides during my 6 weeks there, but the real weight loss occurred when I finally returned home.  My doctor recommended a low carbohydrate diet instead of the traditional low calorie diet. I took to it like a fish to water, it was natural fit for me and what foods I enjoy.

One word of warning about starting this type of diet. Many of you will discover that, like me, you are addicted to sugar. The first week was the roughest for me. I had headaches and craved something sweet. I was literally detoxing from sugar. The headaches were my bodies way of telling me that I was missing something that it needed to operate.  Soon though, my body adjusted to the foods I was eating and things got better. Ultimately, I stuck to the diet and, 6 months into it, I no longer crave sugar, breads or starches. Also, I am still consuming carbs, just a lot less than I used to eat on a daily basis. I get most of my carbs from health sources such as nuts and berries.

Since January I have lost 65 Lbs and am still losing weight, but at a slower pace now. My body will eventually reach and equilibrium and I will stop losing weight.  I feel good and have more energy now than I've had in a long time.  A few of the guys at work have started down my path, one of them being more successful than the other (who claims to be on the diet but eats corn nuts, tortillas and bread all the time). I cheer both of them on because I want them to succeed, but ultimately they have to want the weight loss.

You need to understand that this diet isn't for everyone.  My wife is a case in point, she does not like it and sticks to her low calorie diet. If you are considering starting this, do yourself a favor and do your research. Read as much as you can about a low carb, ketogenic or paleo diet (just to name a few).  Knowledge is definitely power in this case.  The more you know, the more likely you will be to succeed in this new weight loss adventure.  There are some very famous diets out there, but also some lesser know versions.  Find the one that works for you and stick to it.
