Play Ball! The Boys of Summer are Back!

Author: Jose G. Barr

Peanuts, popcorn,  hotdogs and the boys of summer. There is nothing quite like an evening watching a game of baseball with the family. Our family tradition of watching a game of baseball started soon after we moved to San Diego in 2000. We spent many a summer evening at the ballpark watching our favorite major league team, the San Diego Padres.  We would park at the local trolley station near our home and ride the trolley to the park.  Those first few years cemented our love of the game and started what has become a family tradition.

Today, we still love the game as much as ever and continue to go each year to take in some games. We try and make it down to San Diego at least once during the season each year.  But, with the prices of game tickets at an all time high it can be cost prohibitive for a large family to go together.  While it is great to see the major league stars in action, its just as fun to watch the up and comers at a minor league game.  The benefit is that you can catch a game for as little as $10 per person.

There are really no bad seats in the house when you are watching a minor league game.  The stadiums are small, and no matter where you sit you have a great view of the action. Players on these local teams are working towards making it onto the majors and play their hearts out.  Each and every game is exciting and fun to watch. There are minor league teams all throughout the country, making catching a game relatively easy (unlike the major leagues where you have to travel to a major city to find a team).  For us that means we are within 15 to 30  minutes away from 2 teams and there are 2 more within an hours drive.

Each team has many ticket options and seating areas.  Whether you want to be near a base or behind home plate you can have it.  Our seats last night were behind home plate where all the action was (as far as I'm concerned).  If you want to plan a large group outing there are options available for that as well. At our local park you can book a reserved area for 25 people or more, including all you can eat BBQ for as little as $23 per person.

Take my advice and head out to your local ballpark and see the future stars of the major leagues in action. I guarantee that you and your family will have a great time enjoying Americas pastime. For me and my family you will find us this summer at the park watching our favorite teams, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes or the Inland Empire 66ers.

Until next time my friends, love your kids,

Cherish your family.
